Some of My Favorite Web Tools

In this (seemingly) limitless internet, I have a set of tools I use every day to make my world much easier. They are neither particularly complex nor life-changing, more simple and intuitivee. Here they are in all their glory.

StumbleUpon Alerter - This little guy (developed by Moojj) has been a faithful companion in my eternal quest to be #1 on SU. It tracks all your discoveries and tells you how many thumbs and reviews they’ve gotten. We’ll get to #1 one day buddy…

Digg Alerter - Even more so than the SU alerter, this is a god send. Also developed by Moojj, this tool keeps me from checking digg every 3 minutes to see how my submissions are doing.

Social Media for Firefox - Far and away the most valuable social media tool our there. The fellas over at 97th Floor developed this genius tool that shows you how many diggs, stumbles, etc. a page or story has. If you don’t see the value in that, don’t bother downloading.

Yahoo Pipes - One of the most powerful feed tools on the web. This one is changing the way people use the web.

del.icio.us - Anything I love, I tag with delicious. Actually I take that back, anything I’m remotely interested in or could see myself interested in one day I tag with delicious.

myOpenID - myOpenID is a great place to manage your online identity. If you’re like me, you have about 70,000 accounts, user names, and passwords sowed all over the web. And you probably have a 7 page word document with all of those accounts. This eliminates you needing to reference that document every 7 seconds.

Digg + Error Messages = No Fun.

Has this just been me, or is Digg spouting a lot of these messages lately? Anyone else seen these… A LOT?!?

Are StumbleUpon and Digg Working Together?!?

stumbleupon + digg

And I am upset that SU now makes you type this in before you send messages. Don’t you trust me SU?!?

NOTE: No, I don’t think digg and SU are working together. I wrote the headline because they both use CAPTCHA, and the SU captcha happened to say “diggers”

Over Social Syndrome - OSS

social media magnates

  • Neglecting your friends, family, work, social life?
  • Find yourself obsessing over how many diggs a post has, if it’s “hot”, what reviews people left, how many thumbs it has?
  • Constantly checking to see if it “made front page”, or is “recently popular”?
  • Find yourself talking about social media to anyone that will (or won’t) listen?
  • Scorn the “lessers” of the social world who don’t have as many friends/as good of stats as you?

You probably suffer from OSS, or “Over Social Syndrome“. You are obsessed- nay- addicted to social media and the constant scream of its potential and competition. Unfortunately there is no way to combat OSS, if anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them. I coined the term, Anthony coined the acronym, and we both suffer…

I changed my profile image!

On most of my social profiles, I changed my profile image from my face (top right of my blog if you ever want to see) to a green palm tree.

The green palm tree is an image I took and photo-shopped. I wanted it something easily recognizable but that still meant something to me. The image was taken in Thailand, on Koh Tao to be exact. It is one of my favorite places in the world.
