Top 11 Eco-Friendly Valentine’s Day Gifts

In the continued quest for cleaner, greener, and more environmentally friendly world, here is my great list of the top 11 Valentine’s Day gifts to give your sweetheart. Don’t have a sweetheart? Buy them for yourself anyway - they’re all great products with an eco-friendly edge.

11. Nudie Jeans - A denim company with a conscience, Nudie Jeans uses only organic cotton in production. Cotton accounts for 25% of the insecticides worldwide, as well as 7,000 to 29,000 liters of water for each kilo of garment produced. Nudie decided to go a different route, and produces their cotton organically with no harmful pollutants. They are continuing to lead the way in the eco-friendly fashion world, and make some high quality denim while they’re at it! Check their selection of stylish jeans + tops at nudiejeans.com. Prices from $99 to $300+, both men’s and women’s.

10. Loomstate - This clothing company was started in 2004 by a couple guys (Gregory + Hahn) who wanted to help create the demand for organic cotton. The clothing is casual, with its roots in the past 40 years of American youth subculture. They continuously strive to maintain their label as the “golden standard” of responsible manufacturing. I personally own a couple garments and love them, they are comfortable and fit well. Check out their story at loomstate.org. Prices from $60 to $300+, both men’s and women’s.

9. Peace Coffee - This coffee company does it all. Fair trade, farmer friendly, organic, delicious. Makes a unique gift for anyone that drinks coffee (or tea), as well as a statement. Peace Coffee is a great example of a company doing all they can to make a difference in their industry, others’ lives, and the world. Their coffee is very reasonably priced, in fact they are usually dollars less (per pound) than a certain company with two coffee shops on every corner… Check out and buy online at peacecoffee.com. Prices from $9.95 a pound.

8. Inky Loves Nature - Inky sure does love nature, enough to not harm it. At all. This “body products” company makes a variety of scrubs, oils, cleansers, and lotions that will naturally clean the crap out of you (and off you, god forbid). Inky is a vegan company, with a list of things they aren’t about a page long (such as they aren’t using whey, testing on animals, or working with companies that do). They take their vegan-ism seriously, as well as their beauty. Pick up some of their products to make you (or the woman in your life) smell great and be clean! Check them out and buy online at inkylovesnature.com. Prices from about $16.

7. Threads for Thought - This company has gained a lot of attention lately, as a lot of celebrities have been seen wearing their clothing. Everyone from Dan Cheadle to Jaime Foxx are sporting Threads For Thought graphic t-shirts. The shirts are made from organic cotton, and inspired by the environment, Africa, and world conflict. Check the shirts out and buy online at threadsforthought.com. Prices from $44, both men’s and women’s.

3. Montana Legend - Remember, I said “eco-friendly”, not vegan. Although I support animals being treated humanely, I also support a large juicy steak. And Montana Legend does this the best, with sustainable farming methods. Their beef has no added steroids or hormones, the animals have plenty of room, a low stress environment, and herbicide free grass, and no chance of the frightening Mad Cow Disease. I’m not so sure about the organic flowers being eco-friendly; consider where they are sourced and what it takes to get them to you as well.
