Palm Island in use!

I love Google Maps. It’s absolutely mind-blowing to think that I can view almost any city-block or location around the world in seconds.

I’ve always been interested in the Palm Islands that Dubai created. I watched a couple Discovery Channel specials about them, and decided to check them out this morning. It looks like they are rapidly being developed!

A couple interesting facts:

173 million cubic feet of rock were used to make the “palm” of the island.

there is a six lane highway under the ocean that connects the crescent to the main “palm”. I found a cool time-lapse of the tunnel being created, check it out!

And the finished product:

Eco-Friendly Tope makes Wallets, so does db clay.

At our wallet company (db clay), we pride ourselves on our wallets’ durability, style, and the culture behind them. The company has been using Tope to create our wallets for about a year now, and are very excited about it’s capabilities. The stuff is nearly indestructible, it’s versatile, and it’s wearable.

Our current wallets made with Tope have done extremely well for us, the eco-friendly nature of the material is just one more angle of the db clay story. This story is well told by Benjamin, below.

School Board May Ban Cell Phones in School

It’s funny, because I don’t think that generally this is a bad idea. I didn’t have a cell phone is high school, and few did. That has changed, and I don’t think its such a good thing. I believe it runs parallel to the whole “get out and play” vs. “stay in and watch tv/text/listen to an ipod, etc.”.

BUT, in this situation, the banning of cell phones goes against everything that makes sense in the world. The principal of Caddo school in Shreveport, LA got into a fight with a student. A student recorded the fight on their video-phone and shared it on the internet. So what does the school board do? They are forced to put the principal (Jerry Davis) on administrative leave and instead of debating how to better deal with student outbursts or shoddy supervision, they decide to ban cell phones in school.

This makes about as much sense as someone getting bitten by a poisonous snake, and chasing the snake instead of treating the wound.

Ridiculous. Read the article about the Caddo Board banning cell phones.

Sleep-walking isn’t good.

Especially when you live on the second story. This guy may need to re-think his living situation. He climbs over his railing and sleep walks (or falls) straight to the pavement below.

Baby with enormous head.

This clip is cute, but it is kind of frightening how large this baby’s head is. See for yourself…
