MySpace/MTV to hold presidential chats
Instant-messaging has finally gotten the respect it doesn’t deserve. Starting September 28, MTV and MySpace are hosting internet “conversations” between 2008 presidential hopefuls and social network users. These won’t be raw- a moderator will still be present to chose the questions to be answered. So my question is: why bother? If you are still going to filter this “conversation” to the same degree as a normal town hall this seems like a moot discussion. The answer (of course) is image. These candidates want to appear to be as web savvy as possible to a generation of predominate non-voters. The problem: anyone who gives two shits about the elections will not be found in a MySpace forum about the elections. I can just picture that:
I mean, OMG did you see what Obama had to say about the state of foreign policy brought about by the current administration? I was totally LMAO when I saw it. Okay, TTYL!
It’s still more than a year until elections and I already have a bad taste in my mouth. My prediction is that Hilary kills Barack after he wins the New Hampshire primary, she goes to prison still sporting her grimacing “smile”, and Edwards pees himself with fear of being elected. At least he can command someone to keep his hair pretty.
