The Red Bull Flugtag - San Francisco

My sophomore year in college I went on a little road trip to San Francisco with my roommates. The purpose of the trip: The Red Bull Flugtag, a Red Bull sponsored PR event that involves teams creating unique flying machines then pushing them off a dock 40′ high. They aren’t the most thrilling shows in the world, especially hopped up on 14 Red Bulls (which remove your peripheral vision and make you kinda jumpy). The after-parties are insane though, especially hopped up on 14 Red Bull + Vodkas. I’ve been lucky enough to attend a couple of these, and actually participated in the Portland version.

I remember seeing this happen and thinking “that HAD to have hurt”… You be the judge:

Vegas Vegas Vegas VEGAS!

This clip is foreshadowing of where I will be in a month. db clay is making it’s annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas for the Pool Tradeshow. I’m excited to go this year, as it will be my first vacation all summer- with some work thrown in. It will be a much more mellow experience than last time I was there, which involved 4 nights, 5 total hours of sleep, 17 hour drives, and me shivering and sweating out alcohol the whole drive back to Portland. I don’t think Chris will ever forgive me, or let me forget. I don’t know why but going to Las Vegas, for work or play, gets me excited!

This Man IS Wild

The discovery channel is one of few I’ll watch these days. Man Vs. Wild is one of my favorite shows on it, just because the host (Bear) is a badass and completely nuts. Few people would go to the most extreme places in the world, then figure out the most dangerous thing to do there, then do it just to show you how to survive. I’ve seen him do everything from eat a live frog to drink the moisture from elephant poo. Check out the full episodes here.

Watch Bear doing what he does best…

Spinoza Quotes

Baruch Spinoza was a 17th century Dutch philosopher that directly affects our lives today. Notably because it was his idea for a government to separate church and state. I have been reading a lot of his work lately, mostly dealing with his beliefs on ethics. It has been some of the most challenging but fruitful reading I have done.

If you want the present to be different from the past, study the past.

All happiness or unhappiness solely depends upon the quality of the object to which we are attached by love

Desire is the very essence of man

There is no hope unmingled with fear, and no fear unmingled with hope.

Lazy Sunday

I laughed my ass off the first time I saw this SNL Digital Short. “Lazy Sunday” (or “The Chronic(what!?)les of Narnia”) stars Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg as they rap there way to the movies. My favorite line is:

“Google maps is the best, true that! Double True!”
