Cancer Risk: The sad state of American health

cancer risks.

This recently came to me in the mail, on the back of the envelope. Isn’t it a bit sad that people need constant reminders to take care of their bodies on a basic level? With that said, let’s see how well I’m reducing my risk of cancer…

  1. If you smoke, quit. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. I had never had a cigarette until late last year, and have occasionally since then. It’s only when I drink, and even then it’s a rarity.
  2. Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. I do. I make almost all of my own meals and have a healthy respect for nutrition + my body.
  3. Increase the amount of fiber in your diet. I eat plenty of it.
  4. Limit alcohol intake. I don’t drink that much anymore, I’ll go out for a drink with friends occasionally. And rarely I’ll have more than a couple :)
  5. Avoid excess sun exposure and wear a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher. I haven’t worn sun screen since my mom forced it on me when I was young. Oops.
  6. Maintain healthy weight. I stay fit. Very fit.
  7. Know the warning signs for common cancers and perform regular self-exams. I think I know some. Maybe I should look into that…

Looks like it’s time for me to really start taking care of myself!

“Live hard, die old.” And I will. Hopefully.

Hey Brian! Thanks for the post! Don’t get me started on American Health or American Health Care! The best solution is to take your advice and stay as healthy as possible! I blog about natural healing methods and I still was appalled to see Michael Moore’s Sicko last night. This post is a good reminder especially right before the holidays when people tend to overindulge. GREAT Blog!
    Gratefully, Jenny
